'California Common' is a hybrid style that uses lager (bottom-fermenting) yeast but is fermented at higher, ale temperatures. This style is often called “steam beer”, a name which has been trademarked by the San Francisco company that used to brew the best known example: Anchor Brewing. The yeast, caramel malt and assertive American hops give it a unique flavour that many credit with launching the American craft beer revolution. We combine high-quality European malts with American Pacific Northwest hops and our house yeast to produce a reddish-amber lager. Dry-hopping enhances aromas of wood and mint against the caramel flavours. It’s complex for a lager but more subtle than an ale; a delicious and unique hybrid. TASTE: bitter caramel mint AROMA: citrus & cedar APPEARANCE: reddish amber, clear but unfiltered AWARDS: SIBA Regional Gold 2024, SIBA Regional Gold 202
